Musical Thank You Card

Senior year of college, I became close friends with Tim, a foreign exchange student from the UK. One common interest we shared was choral singing, and we sang alongside each other for a semester in our school's University Chorus.

Post college, we maintained fairly consistent correspondence through both snail mail and email. Tim has this 'bad habit' of sending me yummy treats from England, and, recently, he sent me a package full of white chocolate bars (I love white chocolate) and a giant milk chocolate bar for my roommate.

In return, I decided to make a thank-you-card for Tim. I had been wanting to practice working with wire and was able to figure out a way to use it in the card.

Thanks Tim!

Crocheted Droid Pouch

I have some exciting news - I had my first real customer! Hayley, my friend and coworker, asked if I'd make a crocheted pouch for her Motorola Droid. I nervously accepted the job. We even scheduled a consultation for her to share her thoughts and ideas and for me to measure her phone and ask any questions. Her criteria ended up being:
- Purple (more blue, less red) body; Off-white (not too yellow) borders and center stripe
- Thin yarn so the phone doesn't end up too bulky
- 1-inch opening at the top (under the flap) so the top of the screen is visible and the side button is accessible

My biggest concern was the yarn because Michaels and Jo-Ann Fabrics don't have the widest selection of yarn colors and thicknesses, so for the first time, I ventured into two different yarn stores. W-O-W. I've never seen so much yarn. Thankfully, I found yarn that fit Hayley's criteria - bluish-purple bamboo yarn and off-white corn yarn (yes, corn!).

Even though I was incredibly nervous throughout the entire process, Hayley's grin upon seeing the finished product helped subside a lot of my fears.

Book Slings

Sophie, my friend and former college roommate, is in the process of decorating her daughter's room. To organize books, she found instructions for some book slings that are cute, functional, and space-saving. And who had the privilege of making them? Me!

I loved working on this project because I got more practice time on the sewing machine. More importantly, I knew the slings were for my favorite 2-year-old cutie pie!

Dried Lavender Bouquet

Let me begin by letting you know that - I am posting this NOT because it was an intended project of mine. I am posting this because I am proud that I semi-successfully managed to work with dried lavender without making too big of a mess. Having said that... I am not sure if I will be working with dried lavender again. It gets everywhere!

A while ago, I was wandering around the Ferry Building in San Francisco with some girlfriends when I stumbled upon a stand that sold dried lavender. I bought some thinking I could use it in my room but ended up leaving it wrapped up for a couple months. This weekend, I noticed the air freshener in my room had run out and remembered my lavender. I happen to love its smell and wouldn't mind letting the fragrance fill my room. Problem: How to use the lavender without it getting all over the place.

Crocheted iPhone Pouches

My dear college roommate Shinie (I like to call her Shiniekins =D) has finally finished medical school. Four grueling years of studying, rotations, and lack of sleep - major props to her for getting through it successfully.

I wanted her to treat herself to something nice and pretty, so I picked up a gift card to Nordstrom. To package it up, I crocheted her a matching set of pink and brown cases that she could use for various things, including her iPhone.
